About Us

The Central Societies Committee (CSC) is the body responsible for student societies in Trinity College. The objects of the CSC are:

To promote the interests of student societies and to act as their representative within the University of Dublin and Trinity College.
To consider applications for, and to grant, recognition as University societies; and to regulate the continuing recognition of such societies.
To elect representatives to sit on the Capitation Committee.
To elect representatives to sit on other committees as appropriate.
To seek from the Capitation Committee a proportion of the capitation fees adequate to meet the needs of societies.
To distribute grants to societies out of the money allocated to the C.S.C. by the Capitation Committee, and to oversee the usage of said monies.
To oversee the auditing of the accounts of societies.
To develop an overall policy for the maintenance, use and extension of the accommodation and facilities available to societies, and to implement any such policies by the acquisition by the CSC or its duly appointed nominees of property by purchase, lease, hire, exchange or otherwise.

The CSC is one of five "capitated bodies" in College. The other four are: The Students Union (SU), The D.U. Central Athletics Committee (DUCAC), The Publications Committee (Pubs) and the Graduate Students Union (GSU).

Each student, undergraduate and postgraduate, pays an annual fee to College, part of which goes to the "Capitation Committee" for distribution to the five bodies. Each capitated body has representatives who sit on this committee, which is chaired by the Senior Dean. The Committee meets about once a term, unless there is any unexpected business in which case extra meetings may be convened.

CSC Officers

The following are the current officers of the CSC, and the responsibilities each holds:

Chairperson: Sophie Davies	The Chairperson's role is to chair meetings of the executive, and general meetings of the committee. The chairperson also liases between the CSC and other college bodies.
Treasurer: Nick Beard	With the Honorary Treasurer, the Treasurer is responsible for the CSC's finances, and the distribution of grants to the societies. The Treasurer makes recommendations to the Executive on societies' grant applications.
Honorary Treasurer: Joseph O'Gorman	The Honorary Treasurer, who serves a three-year term, has responsibility for the larger societies, and for the CSC's long-term financial planning.
Secretary: Robert Kearns	The Secretary's chief responsibility is to liase with students who wish to establish new societies. The Secretary can advise prospective societies on writing a constitution, and makes recommendations to the Executive on the recognition of new societies.
Amenities Officer: Cathal Horan	The Amenities officer has responsibility for society rooms and facilities.

The CSC Executive

The CSC executive is made up of the five officers and eight ordinary members, who are elected at the Annual General Meeting. The executive meets regularly to make decisions on grant applications, recognition and derecognition of societies, and other business. Reports on decisions made at meetings of the Executive are published on the web site - current reports are available here.

CSC Staff

Lucy O'Connell is the Administrative Officer of the CSC.
